Hello Survivors! Today, we’re going to look at a very important piece of safety equipment – whether you’re using it for shooting sports, construction, or any other activity that you are looking to protect your hearing from loud noises! Let’s check out the SPIKA Electronic Shooting Earmuffs!
The kind folks at SPIKA were nice enough to send me these earmuffs to check out, and I am so glad they did! I goto the shooting range once in a while, and owned an electric set of earmuffs, but I will compare and contrast these and I think at the end of this review you’ll see that the SPIKA Electronic Shooting Earmuffs are an excellent value and feature some features that make it stand out from its competitors.
So, if you’re not familiar with what shooting earmuffs are, they are well, for shooting sports. In case you’re not familiar with guns, they are really loud, and using them without proper hearing protection is a great way to permanently mess up your hearing. You’ll notice in a lot of older war movies there’s usually a soldier that will go deaf due to being too close to the extremely loud sounds of a gun firing or a grenade going off. While I’m not itching to get into a war zone any time soon, hearing protection is required anytime you visit the local shooting range, and for good reason.
With ear protection, you can either get ear plugs, or ear muffs. There are what I’ll refer to as “dumb” ear muffs that filter out all noise. These will function fine for the purpose of hearing protection, but often times at the range you will want to be able to hear what your friends or instructors are telling you, and having to take off your earmuffs to hear someone defeats the whole purpose. This is where the SPIKA electronic shooting earmuffs shine!
Using two AAA batteries ( which are kindly included) the SPIKA electronic shooting earmuffs turn on with a simple click on the left hand muff. I like this feature compared to my other electronic earmuffs, which both use double the batteries, and have individual volume controls for each ear. The SPIKA earmuffs simplify this and make it one less thing to think about.
Some other great advantages that the SPIKA electronic shooting earmuffs have over others are the fact that they have an auto shut off feature- after 4 hours of continuous usage, the earmuffs will turn themselves off, which prevents battery drain (it’s easy after a few hours of wearing muffs to remember to turn them off, and the other pair I have does not have this feature so I have been surprised to find dead batteries in the past)
Another excellent bonus for these earmuffs is that they have a 3.5 mm audio jack – so you have the ability to dual wield these as music speakers – want to listen to some fun tunes while you’re out on the range? These will allow you to rock out with your Glock out!! You can plug in your smartphone, iPod or even a walkie talkie while protecting your hearing!! The SPIKA earmuffs also come with a dual male 3.5 mm audio jack, so you don’t have to hunt one down separately.
Overall, I’ve decided to make these my main earmuffs for when I goto the shooting range, but they also have plenty of applications in other loud environments. My second test run with these earmuffs was while I was helping shore up a loose deck (we hammered probably 300 nails into this deck) and if I had been without hearing protection I am sure I would have had a migraine by the end of the day, but the SPIKA electronic shooting earmuffs worked beautifully to effectively muffle the loud sounds of my hammer hitting the nails into place. So, I wouldn’t just recommend these for shooting sports, but for any loud activity such as construction ( think hammers, power saws, etc) – Plus, these earmuffs are sporty and sleek, and look really cool with their black and orange design. I’ve also noticed they are considerably slimmer than the other two sets of earmuffs that I currently own, so that is the final benefit!
If you’re in the market for some cool sporting earmuffs, definitely check out the SPIKA electronic shooting earmuffs. You can see all of SPIKA’s hunting and outdoor products here, and visit their website here.
