Hey everyone, although this may not seem like a “survival” product at first glance, I use this thing all the time and let’s be honest, a big part of survival is keeping yourself healthy. So, I did a little video this morning of one of my favorite fresh vegetable juice mixes, that I call the “red potion”. Essentially, this is beetroot juice with some other fresh veggies. Beets are a nutritional powerhouse, fairly easy to grow, and provide you with a plethora of health benefits. They are great for your liver, and cleaning your blood as well as lowering blood pressure. In the video below, I show you how I make my red potion beetroot juice using the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus 850-Watt Juice Extractor.
Here’s the most common recipe I use when making juice:
- 1 lemon ( cut rind off)
- 1 beet, cut into 4 chunks
- 1 bunch fresh cilantro
- 1 cucumber (or substitute with celery stalks)
- 3-5 carrots
- 1 chunk fresh ginger root
- Apples (substitute with store bought apple / cranberry/ fruit juice of your choice)
I generally put the cucumber, carrots, and then beets in first. The order doesn’t particularly matter, but I would advise using the ginger last as it is pretty tough and can gunk up the juicer a little bit. Then, once you’re all done you can just pour into a mason jar and mix it with your fruit juice. Close the jar up and give it a good shake, and it’s ready to drink. I find that the juice will keep for about 2-3 days in the fridge. It will separate so you’ll have to shake it up again before enjoying.
Do also note that beet juice is very strong for the uninitiated stomach, and can basically make you poop purple rain. So, you may want to use less beet to start, and eat a good meal before downing this crimson wonder. I really like using the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus, I actually used to own a bigger more powerful model, but I used it so many times it wore down the teeth!
