Geartist Portable Power Station Review

Winter approaches, survivors!  Do you have the ability to charge up electronic devices in case of a power outage or grid down situation?  Geartist has a great solution to keep many of your smaller electronics charged even in the darkest of times.   The Geartist portable power station is a very handy little device that could be useful in both a power outage situation, or as a backup power generator outdoors and camping.

The Geartist Portable power supply is a very handy solution for keeping small electronics powered.   During my testing of the unit, I was able to charge my laptop about 30 % in 30 minutes using the AC sine wave power output.  Another 30 minute test charged my cell phone and Goal Zero Lighthouse via the QC 3.0 and USB outputs – both without putting a large damper on the battery capacity of the Geartist portable power supply.

The generator is roughly 8 pounds and made of sturdy plastic material.  Operation is extremely simple, with only two buttons for programming and one button on the back of the unit to power the onboard light.  The power button turns the unit on, and holding the AC unit for about 4 seconds will turn the power into AC sinewave in order to use the 3 and two prong outlets to charge AC powered items.

Just turning the power on will allow you to use the USB, QC 3.0 and DC out outlets, and as I mentioned above multiple USB outlets can be utilized at once.   Total wall charge time is stated to be 6-7 hours, so the amount of power you would be able to deliver to small electronic devices is substantial before ultimately depleting the battery.  An onboard fan automatically kicks into gear when the unit starts to heat up from delivering electricity – I noticed this function more regularly when utilizing the AC charger.

The Geartist portable power station ships with a wall charging adaptor, as well as both male and female 12V cigarette lighter adaptors, which would allow you to both charge the unit using a car battery, as well as charge devices that would normally plug into the cigarette lighter port on a vehicle.   Another added benefit of the power station is the on board lamp, which features a bright, dim and two emergency strobe light patterns – great for either giving a light source or potentially signaling others in an emergency situation.

This item is available at Amazon, and has a hefty 50% discount if you’re a Prime member – so for the Prime price, I would certainly recommend the Geartist portable power supply as a backup electricity source for your small electronics!
