Brains…. BRAIINSSSS! OK OK, I’ll admit. I like zombies. I think the whole zombie genre is a very fascinating insight and metaphor into society (seems like half the people I interact with day to day are already pretty zombified, but that’s for another post I guess) Your humble author occasionally likes to hit up the Army Surplus for Less store, located at 3524 S Broadway, Englewood CO 80113 on the happenstance that he might be in the neighborhood. If you haven’t been to the store, check it out it’s a fantastic place. It’s a labyrinth of military clothing, backpacks, gas masks, hunting & camping gear and more – a very fun destination if you’re in Denver and you like this kind of thing. Anyway, as I was strolling through the maze of gear a particular cardboard package caught my eye – and it was the Zombie Defense Solutions 3 Day Survival Kit.
Now, I’m aware that there probably won’t be a zombie outbreak. But, I went to college for advertising and design, and the design kinda, well… bit me, you could say. I had a little spare change so I said what the hell, at least it’ll make a good survivaljunk.com article.
So, what do you get in the Zombie Defense solutions 3 day survival kit? A couple nifty items!
Food: A 9 portion 3600 calorie survival food bar (each portion is broken into 400 calories) It’s basically a shrink wrapped brick of power bars. I haven’t opened it up so no clue how it tastes… but it’s hard as a rock in the packaging! from my research, they have a lemon vanilla taste to them.
Water: 6 individual water pouches that hold 4.22 oz’s of water each.
Lighting: one box of water and wind proof matches and 3 glow sticks with a 12 hour light providing limit.
Warmth – one Mylar reflective emergency blanket
First aid – a minimal assortment of sterile products including bandaids, gauze pads, alcohol pads and some antibiotic ointment.
Tools: One emergency hammer – gives you the ability to break out a car window in case of a quick need of escape, and also includes a seat belt cutter. Alongside is a paracord bracelet that has a built in emergency whistle. The bracelet can unfurl and provide 10 feet of paracord.
Overall thoughts: This is a cool little gift box for a friend or a white elephant, but I am not sure it would be all you really need in order to survive a zombie apocalypse. However, it’s a great starter gift to get someone into the basics of emergency preparedness and the box is just cool looking. I think it’s a good thing to get someone that might not be into prepping but happens to love zombies!
