When disaster strikes at home, such as a hurricane, blizzard or other natural threat that can knock out your power, water becomes the number one survival priority. While an average human can last about three weeks without eating food, most of us would be toast within only three days without adequate water. If you live next to a stream or a lake, well, lucky you! Most of us do not, and therefore having a way to store up some emergency water is vitally important. That’s where the WaterBOB comes in – this nifty contraption provides you the ability to turn your bathtub into a 100 gallon drinking water storage area.
The waterBOB is essentially a large heavy duty plastic bladder that is designed to fit inside of a bathtub. The idea being, that if you know you’re in for a major storm, you fill up the bladder in order to have up to 100 gallons safely sealed away in case the power goes out. Now, I am sure some of you are saying well, why cant you just fill up the bathtub? You could, of course. The benefit of having the water contained in the bladder, however, is that it will stay fresh longer and not be subjected to airborne pollutants, thirsty pets, or anything else that could make the water turn nasty. And with the low price point of the waterBOB, why not give it a whirl?
While I do not live in a hurricane prone area, we do have the threat of severe winter storms and blizzards in my neck of the woods – and those are the events that we’ve experienced power outages for up to a week in length. With a blizzard, there’s also the negative aspect that you’re literally stuck in your house until you either dig out or the snow has melted. I wish we could have had one of the waterBOB products during the last long blizzard we went through – I believe we were heating snow to make water! Luckily I now have a few waterBOB packages stashed away, and I will keep them safely stored until I hear that the next big storm is coming!
