Survival Generators to consider

Let’s face it, we love our electricity.  If you live in any modern culture, you’re pretty used to flicking the light switch and instantly having light.  You’re used to turning on the oven for instant, easy heat to cook your pizza rolls.  When you turn on your faucet, water magically flows into your cup, shower or cooking pot.  What happens when that all gets taken away?  This article covers some quick ideas about what kind of survival generators you may want to have in order to keep the electricity flowing.  So, here are some excellent options to consider in the field of survival generators.

Gas Survival Generators

Probably the most commonly available generators on the market, gas generators are large, heavy, and sometimes pretty loud.  However, due to their availability they are probably the easiest to acquire.  They can vary widely in price from a couple hundred bucks to models that are well over $1000.  With any piece of equipment, they will require regular maintenance and have the potential of breaking down.  And of course, you will need to have some available gasoline to fuel them.  Great for a short term emergency or power outage.

Diesel Survival Generators

Similar to their gas guzzling counterparts, diesel generators are widely available, and as you may have guessed, they run on diesel fuel.   The main advantage that a diesel generator has over a gas generator is the fact that they are more efficient, and as such can run longer on less fuel.  They are also known to be a little less quiet than the gas ones, so if you are trying to maintain some power without drawing a lot of attention this may be a good route to take.  Again, the main issue with using one of these is being able to acquire the fuel to run it.

Wind Survival Generators

Wind power  has become more and more prevalent in the modern world, as we have sought to move away from the burning of fossil fuels.  Wind generators come in all sizes, from ones small enough to power your cell phone to giant towers that produce power for entire towns.   The initial cost of a wind power turbine can be a little daunting, but they generally last for an extremely long period of time and if you live in a region that collects a good breeze now and again, you can store quite an impressive amount of energy just by harnessing the natural wind.

Solar Survival Generators

Solar power was once mocked as being too expensive and not efficient enough, but as technology and time advance it’s become commonplace to see solar generators spring up in fields, on stop signs, and gracing the roofs of many homes.  In fact, in Germany, almost 7% of all the country’s power comes from PV solar generation (and Germany is one of Europe’s most cloudy countries!).  You can start small with solar generators, or go gangbusters, it’s really up to your aspirations and budget.  You will have to consider, however, that on really cloudy or dark days you may have to hold off on some projects, for example things that use power tools or cause a large sap on your power bank.
