Hello survivors! Today’s item is a lighting and electronics topic, and I couldn’t stay away from this cool little folding solar lantern. The Suaoki solar lantern is a really clever little clover shaped camping lantern with dual charging functions and a small profile for your backpack. Let’s check it out.
So, the first thing I would point out on this is that it’s pretty light, and easy to fit in a bag. I would probably hang on to the box the Suaoki solar lantern is shipped in and store it into my pack that way, as there would be a little concern that you could snag one of the panels on another piece of equipment. The lantern has a pretty clever design: three folding arms that feature solar panels on one side, and LED lights on the other. So, the design allows you to either flip the Suaoki solar lantern with panels up to allow charging, and then flip it over for lights. The lantern also features a little folding hanger so you can place the lantern up in a tent. The hanger is made of pretty thin plastic though, so be gentle with it.
The Suaoki solar lantern has three light modes, dim, bright and flashing. The flashing is a cool feature that also gives this lantern some usefulness for signaling help in an emergency. The product is pretty light, only weighing in at around half a pound. I am always about having an easily rechargable method of getting light – and if it doesn’t require flame that’s even better in my book as far as safety inside your own home. You have some options as well in regards to the Suaoki solar lantern color you want to purchase, there’s a lime green that I got and also an orange model.
The stats on the product boast 3.5 hours worth of light, but this might be hard to accurately guage unless you ONLY use the light at night and then keep the panels out of sunlight during the day. Mine is actually charging as it sits in the windowsill, next to my lazy cat! You can also charge the unit with an included USB plug for normal times. The LED’s are quite bright, even in dim mode, so it will very easily give you adequate light inside of a tent or even a good size room. If you’re looking for an easy solution to be able to light several rooms, a few of these hung up near where a light fixture normally is would be a wonderful solution to provide yourself with a safer and brighter source of light than burning candles. The Suaoki solar lantern definitely gets my stamp of survival approval!
