If you’ve been looking for a great reliable pocket knife that won’t break your bank, look no further than the Smith & Wesson Border Guard series.  I’ve owned two of these knives and I barely go anywhere without one.  With a 4.4 inch blade, and opened length of about 10 inches, this is a serious knife with lots of cool features.

One of my favorite parts of the Smith & Wesson Border guard is the overall look and feel of the knife.  The pair I own are a sleek black finish with a sandpaper feel on the grip, which is helpful if you get those sweaty palms!   The knife fits easily in a pocket and after it’s broken in, you can open it pretty effortlessly with a flick of your thumb.

Other excellent features of the Smith & Wesson border guard series of knives is that they feature some emergency functions.  Namely, the ones I have both have a pointed end in the handle that serves as a window breaker, & they also feature a seat belt cutter.   Now, I have yet to be drowning in my car with the need to both cut my seat belt and smash out the window to escape.. but you never know when it might come in handy.  I actually use the seat belt cutter quite a bit when moving and opening bales of hay – it’s the perfect width to cut bailing twine.  Since I have purchased my pair of Smith & Wesson border guard knives,  they have come out with new models for those who want a different style in the look of their knife.   The blades are available in a drop point blade, or partially serrated.   There now appear to be dozens of variants available in this knife series, so be sure to check them all out and see which one works for you.
