Cool uses for your Ammo Can!

There’s nothing quite as ubiquitous in the world of prepping as the humble green metal ammo can.  You  know you love em!  I’m referring of course to the classic M19A1 Ammunition box that you can commonly find in any military surplus store.  Originally designed to hold 7.62x51mm NATO cartridges for the US military, the ammo can has a lot of uses outside of just storing your bullets!  Check out these fun ideas.

Ammo Can Lunch Box

Now, I do NOT recommend using a used ammo can in order to do this – you will want to find a brand new one that has never been used.  Old ammo can boxes can have residual lead or other nasty chemicals, so you wouldn’t want that mixing with your lunch!  However, if you buy a brand new one on the internet (I have also found them at my local COSTCO)  these will make a really sturdy place to keep your lunch secure.  If you’re worried about contaminants, a plastic ammo can may be a good option for a lunch box as well.

Ammo Can Tent Stove

Want to get a little creative in heating your camp?  Instead of buying a camping stove, how about make one using one an an extra ammo can?  Here are a couple really clever youtubers that have done just that – and with the sturdy metal frame of an ammo can, you can create a really nice little stove to keep your tent warm on a cold night!  (NOTE: I am not the creator of these videos, but you should like / subscribe to these channels!!!! Give them some love!)

Ammo Can Hunting Trap

With a little modification, you could easily convert your ammo cans into a classic “box and stick” trap for capturing small game.

Ammo Can Seat

If nothing else, you can put your can to work as a sturdy little stool so you don’t have to get your butt wet on the ground while out camping.  Sure, it’s not the most comfy thing in the world to sit on, but put a blanket on top of it and you will have something to keep your rump off the ground!

What about you?  Do you have any cool ideas for your ammo cans?  Think outside the “box” and let me know! Happy Camping!
