Conflicted Games Playing Cards Downfall Deck – Prepper Card Game

I’ll tell you right now, fellow survivors, preppers and collectors of gear – I really love Twitter.  I didn’t really get it at first, but turns out Twitter is one of the best places to meet like minded people.  One of those such people was Conflicted Games, who was super cool and decided to send me a deck of their special survival playing cards.  The Conflicted Games playing cards are a really cool concept, not to mention beautiful and really high quality playing cards!   Here’s my review.

I got a tiny package in the mail on Saturday and I started getting excited because I was anticipating receiving a pack of these cards – today was the day!  I opened them up and was greeted on the front of the pack by a hooded, gas mask wearing survivor, who looks like he has been playing this game a while. 🙂   The first thing to note about the Conflicted Games playing cards is they are rather high quality – they feel very solid, like a good casino style card stock weight and feel.    The artwork was also fantastic, not sure how they had it done but the graphic design is on point, guys.   I was not sure what to expect with these, if it was going to be like an UNO deck or something else, but the Conflicted Games Playing cards are a full 52 card deck, including jokers.  One of the jokers has the rules of the game:

Conflicted Games Playing cards rulesRules:  3+ Players

Every scenario assumes the world has gone into chaos and the apocalypse has taken place.

  1. Shuffle the deck and place it in the center of the table.
  2. The first player reads a card and each player at the table answers the card (one round).  The player with the best answer is awarded the card that was just read (one point) by the person who asked the question.
  3. The game moves clockwise and the process repeats.
  4. Play as many arounds as desired.  The winner is the person who has been awarded the most cards (points) by the group.

So, this game plays out similarly to Apples to Apples or Cards against Humanity in that whoever comes up with the best answer for the round will ultimately take the point.   The scenarios on the cards are pretty widely varied, some realistic and others more fantastical, such as these two examples:

“A travelling witch doctor approached you, and he is paying well in junk silver and ammo for livers of the deceased.  There are plenty of dead all around you and you feel this individual isn’t a threat to the living.  To be so close to the bloated, rotting corpses would put you at risk of getting several types of diseases, but you and your camp are in desperate need of more ammo and barter items.  Would you desecrate the dead for your own profit or not?”

“Due to a deadly virus approaching your city, you and your family decided it’s time to bug out. However, your only car has been stolen.  It is winter time and it would be suicide to bug out on foot.  Your chances of finding an abandoned car are next to nothing, since everyone is leaving town.  Would you steal someone else’s car and put them in your situation for your family’s sake, or would you stay in and risk dying from the virus? “

The different cards are well written out and contain plenty of thought provoking questions – and I think that’s where this game shines is actually being able to talk about such dire things with friends in a casual gaming atmosphere – what would you do?  What’s the right thing? What’s the thing that will help you survive?   I haven’t played this game with friends yet as I just received the cards, but I am thinking it could make for a pretty entertaining night.

The other thing I would like to make note of is that these cards could be used as actual playing cards for poker or go fish or any of the classic card games, which gives them a dual utility.  They might be a little tough for poker since they don’t show faces, but in a pinch you could certainly use them.  And that gives them some survival gear utility in themselves – one of the things that drives many crazy in a survival situation is sheer bordeom, and luckily with Conflicted Games playing cards you don’t need any power to play – just a table and some light!

Thanks again to Conflicted Games playing cards to let me check these out – I can’t want to play a round with my buddies.  They have several decks available, each with their own art work and unique survival scenarios.    To visit their website, you can visit https://www.conflictedthegame.com/
