Wow.  I can barely put into words what a valuable book this is.  Written by Jethro Kloss in 1939, Back to Eden is an absolute treasure trove of herbal and plant knowledge.  I originally heard of this book on the same podcast in which I discovered The Art of Shen Ku.  If I recall correctly, the podcast host was discussing what books would be the most useful in a scenario of a solar flare that took out the power grid.  Back to Eden was on his top three list, so on the podcast’s advice I decided to order it.  I was not disappointed!

contains so much knowledge for such a reasonable price, I really couldn’t believe it didn’t cost more.  This book contains just under 900 pages of all sorts of information pertaining to the healing nature of various plants and herbs.  It’s got recipes, various outlines of different kinds of diets you can follow for various effect, and a full guide on the usefulness of almost every herb you could think of.  It’s got information for kicking an alcohol or tobacco habit,  how to bake nutritious bread, and how to create healing tinctures.

Back to Eden - a book about herbs and natural cures

If you’re interested in some of the ‘lost ways’ of herbalism, this tome is a Godsend.  It amazes me reading books like this when we live in the high paced technological world of today that so many simple and effective (and natural) methods have faded into the background of history.  This book is an excellent way to step back into the remedies and common sense of our grandparents’ generation.   The book is written in plain and simple English, and is very easy to follow along with.  Kloss’s personal anecdotes provide realistic and intimate insight into the cures he provides.  This book is highly recommended for anyone interested in learning more about herbs, natural remedies, and some insight into a simpler way of living from days gone by.   A fantastic text that should be in any prepper, survivalist, or herbalist’s library!
