As some of you may have heard in recent months, the outdoor sporting goods giant Gander Mountain has been shuttering its doors and many of its stores are going out of business.  So, with my natural inclination towards cool outdoors and survival gear I had to go make a raid on my local store – which has only been open since last fall!   As I rummaged through the leftovers and hiking socks, something caught my eye.  That something was the Badlands Diablo Dos hunting backpack.  Once I saw it, I was hooked!

The unique way the pack is set up allows for ventilation to get through to your back – note the metal frame that holds the weight of the pack instead of you!

I’ve been searching for a lighter day pack for my outdoor activities, and the Badlands Diablo Dos really fits the bill.  The first and most impressive thing to know about the Diablo Dos is it’s incredible strength to weight ratio – this thing only weighs just over four pounds, and can carry a load of about forty pounds.  That is superb!  It’s also compatible with any hydration bladder like a camel back for up to a three liter bladder.

One of the other specs that really drew me into this backpack was the unique frame and ventilation offered – the backpack itself sits on a metal frame, but the user’s back is separated from the frame with a padded mesh, which allows superior airflow around your back so it doesn’t get all sweaty and swampy.  Very well thought out!  This design has been trademarked by Badlands and is called Hypervent ()  – it’s obviously well thought out for those long, hot hunts or hikes.   The back side of the Badlands Diablo Dos features compression straps and a dangling “boot” that you can put the butt stock of a rifle or the bottom of your bow into, and then be able to tie the rifle up to the back of the pack.  Pretty slick, if you ask me.

Finally, I fell in love with the Badlands Diablo Dos because of the unique camouflage pattern it had when I saw it in the store.  I had never seen it before, and the reason for that was this is a specially designed camo pattern made by Badlands themselves – it’s called “Approach” and it looks awesome!

With two main compartments and six pockets on the pack, the Badlands Diablo Dos hunting pack is an excellent addition for anyone seeking a light weight hunting / backpacking pack that provides great comfort and the ability to haul near 40 pounds of load out.   And not to be out done, it’s protected by a stellar unconditional performance warranty- even if you bought it second hand!  If you want to learn more about Badlands, you can visit their website here.
