Adventure Tape – Wrap up Your Adventure!

Wow, when I first started SurvivalJunk.com, I never would have thought I would run into such cool products, or let alone be sent such cool products to review!    Another awesome company that I found on Twitter is just that.   Adventure Tape, a small startup based in Lydney, UK (which unfortunately this Yank had to look up on Google maps!  It’s in  West England, close to the Welsh border for anyone who is curious 😉  ) was extremely kind to send little old me a tin of their fantastic tape.  While I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from Adventure Tape,  I have to say I am damn impressed.   In the spirit of the English, I’ll keep calm and carry on with this review.

Adventure tape in the USA
All the way from Lydney, UK to Denver, Colorado!

So, first thing’s first – Adventure tape is a brand new startup, looking for capital via Kickstarter.  After I got done playing with the tape, you know damn well I sent a donation in!   This product is really, really cool.
Upon opening my package, I was greeted with a simple but elegant silver tin – it reminded me a bit of a shoe shin or tobacco tin.   The branding is simple and clean, and really jives well with the overall presentation.

Inside my fancy new tin resided a neatly spun roll of some of the strongest rubber I’ve seen for something the size of a roll of tape.   According to the information packet that accompanied my Adventure tape, each roll is 3.6 meters long (just under 12 feet for my metric system intolerant friends)  I received the “medium” weight tape, which is a thickness of 18mm.

Playing with Adventure Tape left me impressed.  This stuff is strong –  check out my video below of lifting over 30 lbs of kitty litter in a bucket using just 5 or so inches of tape.  It’s super flexible and what I found most impressive about it is that the tape returns to its original dimensions extremely well, and from my stress testing doesn’t seem to easily get stretched out (think of the elastic band in your underwear after a few months or years!!)  The tape itself is a sleek black, which feels high quality in your hand.  I of course have no clue what kind of formula the tape is made from chemically, but it really feels like a form of rubber.    I wrapped it around my hand simulating the need to bandage a finger, and although tucking it in under itself can be a little tricky, once accomplished the tape held extremely well on my finger.  In fact, I think one of the coolest uses of this Adventure tape could be for a makeshift tourniquet in an emergency – it certainly has the strength to be able to wrap tight enough that you can help cut off circulation if needed.

For less graphic applications,  the list is endless.  You could use it to fix a busted shoe sole, make a makeshift carrying handle, compress bulky bedding out in the woods, or tie down a tarp.   By their own words, Adventure tape is:

  • Super Strong – yes
  • Super Stretchy – yes
  • Grippy – agreed
  • Reusable  – Agree to an extent, I am curious how it would perform if it got very dirty / dusty
  • Waterproof – certainly feels like this material would keep water from permeating
  • Non Adhesive
  • Highly abrasion resistant
  • Constructive  – (AND FUN!)

I am a believer in Adventure tape!  I think this stuff rocks, and it’s a great concept.   Anyone could find use for a can of this stuff, and I am going to keep my roll in my truck from now on.    To help out Adventure Tape get launched, visit their Kickstarter page and show them some love!
